PAGRO DISKONT is a popular Austrian retail brand that has been part of the MTH Retail Group portfolio since 2004, along with numerous other well-known brands.

In around 150 stores throughout Austria as well as in the online shop, PAGRO DISKONT convinces with a comprehensive range of more than 20,000 items from the (home) office, paper, household and handicraft sectors - all in top quality and at a reasonable price. The brand is both a source of ideas and a source of inspiration, with a strong focus on "do it yourself" and creative design. New product ideas and seasonal promotional items on topics such as gardening, barbecuing or Christmas complete the range of products and services.

In order to be even closer to its customers, the company is relying on a multi-channel offensive and is constantly continuing a successful digital expansion with a seamless integration of the online and offline shopping world.

Customer Request

The MTH Retail Group has been successfully using Magento as a shop platform for several years. Magento offers flexible, scalable eCommerce solutions with the ability to easily connect third-party systems as well as handling complex processes. That’s why the customer quickly chose the world’s most popular shop system. Considering the strong growth and the intended expansion course, the company instructed PHOENIX MEDIA as Adobe Gold Partner to do a Re-Platforming on Magento Commerce.

Since the mobile use of online shops has increased enormously over the past few years and a high-performance and attractive front-end is one of the main success keys of an online presence, the main focus was on mobile optimization.

Other focus areas of the project were the integration of the retail business (Click & Collect) and the connection of a completely new IT landscape to the web shop.

Reference Result

As an experienced solution partner, PHOENIX MEDIA supervised the migration process for the PAGRO DISKONT web shop and provided advice in terms of connecting different systems.

As part of the integration of a completely new IT landscape, various systems such as SAP for order management, Akeneo for providing product data, OroCRM for managing customer data and Rewe enterprise resource planning for campaign control in retail and online business were connected. Different extensions help to complete the unique customer experience. The Amasty Store Locator makes it possible to find stores using a search function and Google Maps, and manages the inventory for the individual local stores. Products can be imported from Akeneo using PIMGento. In addition, various Vue Storefront modules from Divante for indexing and customer data exchange were connected in the front-end. Last but not least, with Jö-Card a loyalty program has been integrated, which is used by many Austrian companies and gives customers the opportunity to collect reward points and receive discounts on shopping.

For the new online shop, the inventory of all stores has been integrated so that customers directly can pick up products in the PAGRO DISKONT stores. Customers can select their preferred store on and see which products are available there. Once the customer has successfully placed an order, he or she can pick up his or her package there a short time later (Click & Collect).

With the help of the open source solution Vue Storefront, which is based on the modern web technology PWA (Progressive Web Apps), the front-end of the PAGRO DISKONT online shop was completely redeveloped in order to meet the requirements of the increasing number of mobile shop visitors. PWA combine the advantages of websites and native apps in order to offer users the best possible mobile user experience. One of the main advantages of PWA is its exceptional performance. By loading recurring elements once and retrieve product images or texts in a significantly smaller data format, the page loading times on can be accelerated tremendously. Shop visitors now benefit from the offline capability, which PWA make possible. This means that you can browse the web shop even when there is no connection to the internet.

The new online shop platform enables customers to conveniently order from anywhere and receive their products wherever they want. Thanks to the perfect integration of online and offline, PAGRO DISKONT can make the most of its advantages as a subsidiary retailing business. By using PWA, the mobile conversion rate could be increased significantly, which underlines the improvement of the customer experience when shopping online.
